Read-only connection

Coinbase portfolio tracker

Chain Glance connects to Coinbase with a Developer Platform API key and keeps your Spot, Earn and Funding balances separate instead of flattening them into a single number.

What syncs

What Chain Glance reads from Coinbase

Balances and history

  • Spot balances and trades
  • Deposits, withdrawals and conversions
  • Earn and staking rewards
  • Dated futures fills and settlement

Kept separate

Coinbase splits your account into buckets. Chain Glance keeps them apart rather than adding them together, so you can see what is liquid and what is not.

  • Spot
  • Earn
  • Funding

Futures activity syncs too, so a hedged position is not missing half of itself.

Setup

How to connect Coinbase

1

Create a read-only key at Coinbase

Sign in to Coinbase and create a Developer Platform API key and private key with read permission only. Leave trading and withdrawal permissions switched off.

Create the key at Coinbase
2

Copy the credential

Coinbase shows it once. Copy it before you leave the page, because you cannot read it back afterwards.

3

Paste it into Chain Glance

Open the Exchanges page, choose Coinbase, and paste the credential.

4

Wait for the first sync

Chain Glance reads your balances and walks your history back to the start of the account. Transactions appear while the sync is still running.

Read-only, always. Chain Glance never asks for trading or withdrawal permission on your Coinbase account, and cannot move anything out of it. Revoke the key at Coinbase whenever you want and the connection simply stops.

Why Coinbase needs its own handling

Coinbase splits into Spot, Earn and Funding buckets, and Chain Glance keeps them separate rather than flattening them into one balance. Dated futures are valued at their USD notional, so a BIT contract reads as its Bitcoin equivalent instead of a raw contract count.

Moving coins off Coinbase is not a sale

When you withdraw to a wallet you own, Chain Glance recognises the Coinbase withdrawal and the on-chain deposit as two sides of one transfer. Most trackers record them as a disposal and a fresh purchase, which is not what happened.

Coinbase questions

Which Coinbase key does Chain Glance need?
A Coinbase Developer Platform API key and its private key, created in the Coinbase developer portal. It is separate from the password you sign in with, and you can delete it at any time without affecting your account.
Are Earn and staking rewards included?
Yes. Rewards sync into the Earn bucket and stay there, so your spot balance is not quietly inflated by staked coins you cannot spend.
How are dated futures valued?
At their USD notional. A BIT contract reads as the Bitcoin exposure it represents rather than a raw contract count, which is what you need when you are looking at total exposure.
Can Chain Glance trade or withdraw from my Coinbase account?
No. Chain Glance only reads. Create the key with read permission and leave trading and withdrawal switched off. If a key with wider permissions is pasted in, Chain Glance still only ever reads from it.
